Moxilex TB is an ophthalmic antibiotic formulation containing Tobramycin and Moxifloxacin. It combines an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a fluoroquinolone antibiotic to provide antibacterial activity against susceptible organisms causing selected bacterial eye infections.
Tobramycin works by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis, which helps inhibit the growth and multiplication of susceptible bacteria.
Moxifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial enzymes required for DNA replication and bacterial growth.
The combination provides dual antibacterial coverage and may be prescribed when treatment with ophthalmic antibiotics is clinically indicated.
Composition
Tobramycin 0.3% w/v
Moxifloxacin 0.5% w/v
Uses of Moxilex TB Eye Drops
Moxilex TB may be prescribed for selected bacterial infections of the eye, including:
• Bacterial conjunctivitis
• Bacterial infections of the ocular surface
• Selected infections of the anterior segment of the eye
• Eye infections caused by susceptible bacteria
• Other bacterial ocular conditions where topical antibiotic treatment is clinically appropriate
The exact indication should be determined by a qualified ophthalmologist or healthcare professional.
How Moxilex TB Works
Tobramycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by acting on bacterial ribosomes, thereby interfering with bacterial growth.
Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes that are essential for bacterial DNA replication.
Together, the two antibiotics provide antibacterial activity through different mechanisms of action.
